Question #1
Treatments for Polymyalgia
I am interested in finding some alternative treatments for
Polymyalgia.
Answer
#1
Dear Mrs. B,
Thank you for your question.
What is polymyalgia?
Polymyalgia is muscular pain experienced in several muscles,
usually beginning with the neck and shoulders and spreading
to other arm, hip or leg muscles. As a general rule, most
people who suffer from this condition also suffer from some
type of vascular dysfunction such as hardening of the arteries
and constriction of the arteries, as well as digestive problems
and minor breathing difficulties. Arterial constriction and
low oxygen supply are the main causes of this condition as
the muscles need good blood flow to remain efficient and free
from pain. Some practitioners assume this condition also "causes"
fatigue and depression, however I believe fatigue and depression
are simply accompanying conditions which are also encouraged
by the original cause.
The original cause:
Vertebral misalignments at the neck, inability to relax
the "inner" autonomic nerves, poor digestion and
absorption of foods and inability to achieve the healing stage
of R.E.M. sleep regularly.
I would like to offer you a list of several suggestions,
followed by an explanation on muscular health.
- Have a chiropractor or physiotherapist check your neck
for vertebral misalignments and uneven neck tension.
- Herbs and supplements: The herb Mistletoe is excellent
for hardening of the arteries as well as relaxing the nerves
and encouraging muscle health. The supplement Coenzyme Q10
is also often helpful to this condition as it assists blood
circulation. I would suggest you try these, however, there
are other things you should do to assist their effectiveness.
- Dont avoid salt in your diet as a lack of sodium
often causes muscle pain and cramping. Keep in mind you
should always consume more potassium than sodium to maintain
healthy nerve signals and healthy kidney function. If you
also experience stomach bloating and fatigue with your polymyalgia,
I suggest you try a course of acidophilus and supplement
your diet with magnesium for two weeks and consume a good
variety of fruits and vegetables. (The following foods contain
a good supply of magnesium as well as manganese which are
both good minerals for stomach health and fatigue: Apples,
avocado, apricots, bananas, beans, beetroot, celery, cherries,
coconuts, cucumber, dates, figs, grapes, lemons, lettuce,
melons, parsley, pears, pineapple, peanuts wheat and barley.)
- I also suggest you follow a clean diet for at least two
weeks to clean the blood of toxins and waste. When the blood
is cleaned it becomes more efficient and slightly thinner
to flow into the muscles easier to maintain muscular health.
- "If possible" eliminate all coffee and tea,
not herb tea, as they cause the vascular system to constrict
and cause the release of hormones that encourage nerve tensions
that can lead to muscle soreness.
- Perform a 5-minute blood flow exercise five nights a week
"just before bed" to encourage good blood flow
during sleep. These exercises cause the release of the blood
flow hormones prostaglandin and histamine which stay in
the system for hours to assist blood flow and healing during
sleep. Our body only heals during the R.E.M. stage of sleep
and if the system lacks oxygen and experiences poor blood
flow, healing functions are suppressed.
- Drink fluids between meals as the vascular and muscular
systems need plenty of water and fruit juices to maintain
elasticity and health.
- Dont allow "ANY" negative thoughts to
take over your mind, particularly before bed, as negative
thoughts cause excess release of a hormone called cortisol
which draws protein from muscles and veins and causes them
to loose elasticity and become hard.
Physiological explanations
Pain and hardening of any body tissues is predominantly caused
by lack of essential nutrient and abnormal nerve hormonal
reactions. Pain itself is often caused by an absence of oxygen
and minerals which are needed to control every cell function
and lack of oxygen in certain areas is usually caused by excess
nerve tension in the area squashing the cells.
Obviously we must be on a good diet to supply the body with
healing nutrient but we must also be capable of relaxing the
mind and body effectively before we sleep, so that nutrient
can be utilized by the immune system during the R.E.M. Stage
of body healing.
Abnormally high nerve tension in the neck and shoulder muscles
is often caused by an inability to relax enough to experience
the deep stage of R.E.M. healing sleep. This can be caused
by an overactive mind, lack of exercise, lack of positive
mental stimulation, or frustration over confinement.
A simple test to check the flexibility of your neck is to
turn your chin to both shoulders. If you cannot touch both
shoulders with your chin, the trapezius muscles are excessively
tense. This can be rectified by doing neck relaxation exercises.
If you actually feel a click or cannot turn your chin to one
shoulder only, I suggest you visit a chiropractor or physiotherapist
to have the alignment of your neck vertebra checked. Misalignments
can contribute to muscle soreness as well as tingling in the
fingers and hands, headache, short-term memory loss, itchy
eyes and sore throat etc.
The books I recommend
Either my sleep book "Beautiful Sleep, Abundant Energy"
or my treatments book "Miraculous Treatments, Testimonies
and Cures" will help you with your problem. My Treatments
book in particular explains the 14-day blood cleansing diet,
how to maintain stomach and neck health and how to perform
blood flow exercises. This is a book that can help you and
your family for the rest of your lives.
I hope this information is helpful to you and I wish you
all the very best with your interest in natural health.

Question #2
High Blood Pressure and Autism
I had a bad fall last year and as a result the 5 vertebrae
at the base of my spine were knocked out of alignment . The
pain was excruciating and for a while I could not walk and
I was in hospital.
My blood pressure readings were well above average and in
the danger area, which I presumed was due to the pain and
I was on medication to control the pain. The pain medication
made me violently sick and in any case did not help so I refused
further pain medicine however I was prescribed blood pressure
medication (Tenormin).
Previous to the accident I had always had a lower than average
blood pressure reading except when I was not well. It is almost
a year now since I fell and I am much improved but when I
asked the doctor about coming off the blood pressure tablets,
he said that I was on them for the rest of my life.
I cannot believe that I am doomed to taking these tablets
for ever. I know that one should not stop taking these tablets
suddenly but would like to know how one gradually stops taking
them, I am on one tablet 50mg per night.
Incidentally I have Autism (Aspergers Syndrome) to be precise
and am also slightly Bipolar and hate taking medication of
any kind.

Answer
#2
Dear Mrs. L,
First of all I would like to thank you for your question.
To explain blood pressure
If your blood pressure was regularly low prior to your serious
fall, I assume you have a thin frame as it is common for the
thin frame person to have lower than normal blood pressure
readings. In anatomy the thin frame person is called (the
ectomorph) which is the person with the thin bone structure
who makes a good marathon runner.
If in fact you are the ectomorph body type, your nervous
system is a little more reactive to hurtful events than the
other two body types. The ectomorph nervous system goes into
shock easier which causes blood pressure to go high. This
is a common reaction of the ectomorph, but not so common with
the other two types, the endomorph and mesomorph.
In light of this, I suggest it is not the pain that is causing
your high blood pressure but your nerve reaction to the fall.
This means you need to do a number of things to create what
I call a recipe of treatment.
As for your doctor telling you to take tenormin for the rest
of your life, I feel this is irresponsible advice as it deters
you from personal effort. It is true that I dont know
your full case history however I have dealt with hundreds
of people of all ages with blood pressure problems as well
as other health problems and those who are willing to put
in the effort never fail to control their blood pressure through
natural means.
I believe any caring physiotherapist or psychologist would
disagree with your doctor as it is common knowledge, if you
have had low blood pressure all your life and it goes high
just after a trauma, it can come down after exercises, dietary
changes, hot cold bath treatments and relaxation classes.
In some extreme cases counseling is necessary but in many,
these other four steps will suffice. (Side effects of tenormin
include poor blood flow which leads to cold extremities, which
can actually aggravate certain aspects of your autism, fatigue,
dizziness and breathing disorders. Ask your pharmacist to
show you the side effects listed in the MIMS.)
Some months ago, ABC television presented a story on how
doctors receive bonuses from pharmaceutical drug companies
for selling their drugs. In this day and age due to that irresponsible
reward system it appears some doctors place more importance
on the drugs they sell than the clients they treat. Your doctor
may not be this type of person however it makes me suspicious
due to the fact it is easy to prove your doctors claim is
unfounded even if you do suffer from autism as well. In fact,
in some cases autism encourages low blood pressure so if anything,
your autism should actually help the blood pressure problem.
These are the things I suggest you do to formulate your "recipe"
of treatment.
- You need to commence doing two "full body" blood
flow exercise workouts each week or one blood flow exercise
just before bed four nights a week, varying the exercises
to stimulate blood flow in different body areas each night
of the week. Blood flow exercises are by far the best way
to normalize blood pressure, low or high, as they stimulate
a release of the hormones that dilate the blood vessels
causing healthy blood flow. If you exercise regularly, you
stimulate healthy hormonal release patterns that become
permanent. The special breathing that goes with blood flow
exercising is also very helpful to normalizing blood pressure.
This will also help you with your bipolar immensely. Look
up case history "Danielle 19 years of age, severe depression"
in my Treatments book.
- Herbs, vitamins and minerals that can help:
Dong Quai is a herb that can help with high blood
pressure, poor circulation, and anemia (loss of red blood
cells). Anemia is often also associated with autism which
would make this a good herb for you. Feverfew is
a blood purifier which can also help to normalize blood
pressure. (I strongly suggest you take these herbs under
the supervision of a qualified herbalist as they can clash
with other components.)
Vitamin E is the oxygen, cell repair vitamin which
I feel may be a great help to you as it can also assist
symptoms of autism. (Only take vitamin E in the morning
with breakfast as it can interfere with sleep if taken in
the afternoon.)
Rescue remedy is also a product you may find helpful
but dont use it constantly, only use it during times
of stress.
Potassium is a must for blood pressure difficulties
as well as autism. Obtain it from consuming a variety of
fresh fruits and vegetables and you will benefit greatly.
(Due to your high blood pressure I suggest you dont
take potassium tablets as they can agitate existing heart
difficulties.)
- Hot cold bath treatments before bed to encourage nerve
relaxation and good sleep.
- What to avoid:
Avoid eating food between meals. If hungry, revert to water
or "pure" fruit juices between meals as eating
foods causes the heart to continually pump extra blood to
the intestine etc causing it to constantly overwork. Avoid
coffee, tea (not herb tea) excessive consumption of alcohol
and greasy foods. Suggestions from the Center for the Study
of Autism in America suggest people suffering from autism
should avoid two proteins, gluten (found in most grains)
and casein (found in cows milk).
- Do everything possible to ensure you sleep well each night.
Your ability to relax well and your quality of the deep
R.E.M. Sleep regulates the health of your full cardiovascular
system as well as the hormonal system that controls it.
- Rearrange your lifestyle to ensure you enjoy one full
day off each week and do the things you really want to do
for your own enjoyment. Medical studies have shown, the
hormonal glands that control our cardiovascular system can
only store their hormones if we experience extended relaxation
on a weekly basis.
- Surround yourself with people, ornaments, hobbies, music
etc that you love and avoid things that agitate you. Thoughts
of love and continually reminding yourself you love certain
things causes a part of the brain called the substantia
nigra to release a hormone called dopamine and it is a lack
of dopamine that encourages autism as well as heart problems.
You can find out more about blood flow exercising, sleep
improvement, hot cold bath treatments, how to overcome food
allergies and blood pressure in my sleep book: "Beautiful
Sleep, Abundant Energy" and my treatments book: "Miraculous
Treatments, Testimonies and Cures". My Treatments book
in particular explains how to control an overactive mind which
is often a common trait of autism and it gives the results
of a survey of 6 heart attack victims who all suffered two
common causes. This gives a good understanding of how the
heart reacts to stress.
I hope this information is helpful to you.
